How to build your own 00 Scale Colour light signals


  • Instructions for building working colour light signals as featured on "Windward" model railway.
  • Designed for use with 12V DC power supply, with common anode (+) at signals. Common anode chosen for compatibility with electronic switching.
  • Use of 12V LED’s eliminates the need for separate resistors and reduces risk of burnout.
  • Structures are made from brass, with copper wire for ladders & handrails.
  • Signal head design is the same for all types of gantry.
  • Dimensions in mm unless stated otherwise. Inches are used where the brass stock is supplied in imperial sizes

Tubing
  • 5/32" brass tube KS128
  • 3.5mm brass tube thinwall KSM85

Brass strip
  • 3/16" brass channel KS183
  • 0.032" x 1/2" brass strip KS241
  • 1/32" x 3/32" brass strip

Wire
  • 0.5mm dia wire
  • Telephone cable (4 x 0.5mm)
  • 1.0mm² / 1.2mm dia wire.
  • 30 awg kynar coated wire

LED’s
  • 3mm 12V LED’s

Other
  • Epoxy putty
  • Paints
